Los Angeles Sol Defeat FC Gold Pride/Kuroda Throws Rehab Start
The Los Angeles Sol faced their rivals up north, FC Gold Pride, on May 24.
The Sol got an early goal opportunity at the 13 minute mark, with a pass from Aya Miyama to Han Duan. Han Duan’s shot, however, went right at the goalkeeper for an easy save.
Then, during the 25th minute, Miyama again created another chance for the Sol. Tackled inside the penalty area, the Gold Pride were called for a foul. Camille Abily kicked the penalty kick, scoring the first goal of the game.
In the 33rd minute, Miyama shot from mid range, only to have the goalkeeper make a fine play.
FC Gold Pride began its counterattack early in the second half.
Arakawa lobbed a pass in front of the goal. With an open net, it looked like the game was tied, but the header went far right of the goal post.
With 5 minutes remaining, Han Duan ran past the Gold Pride defense to score her first goal of the season.
The Sol successfully extended its lead in the WPS standings.
