Yellow Magic Orchestra

The Japanese techno-pop group, Yellow Magic Orchestra, performed at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on June 26th in front of a crowd of 10,000 people.

Formed in 1978, the group, which performed in Los Angeles for the first time in 23 years, caused a boom in electronic music.

On this evening, however, fans were also surprised by an appearence by secret guest, Yoko Ono.

"Today's Japan Needs Love" is the message they sent to Japan through song At the end of the concert, all the performers got together to close with The Beatles number "Hello Goodbye".





Sushi Chef Institute

What Japanese food is the most popular in America? Of course the answer is sushi!

Sushi chefs train in a specialized sushi school. The Sushi Chef Institute, which has just moved to Torrance, celebrated the opening of it's new school.

Greeting those that came to the celebration was sushi chef Andy Matsuda, founder of the "Let's Move" campaign which has been advocated by Michelle Obama.

Launched in February of this year, "Let's Move" is a campaign to prevent obesity and promote health for children in the United States. It endorses a healthy diet and exercise.

Chef Andy hopes to target parents in the area who have children by opening this classroom.



MK Taxi

Popular in Kyoto for their friendly service and affordable fares, MK Taxi opened it's business in Los Angeles in April of this year.

MK North America wishes to provide rates a taxi limousine service. Fixed price airport transfer services $80 for an hour would sell as a clear fee structure.

Also, in striving for that spirit of service like they have in Japan, MK North America has hired Japanese-English bilingual drivers and a Japan enforced decorum.

The MK service will hold a $10 off campaign throughout July, with the aim of consolidating LA businesses.



Earthquake Charity Conference

The Earthquake Charity Conference was held in the Little Tokyo Union Church on June 25th, presented by seismologist Andy Chan. Chan explained the mechanics of an earthquake to those in attendance.

Among his topics, Chan covered the San Andreas Fault and pointed out the possibility of a major earthquake striking the area within the next 30 years.

Based on their own knowledge of emergency preparation, Chan stressed the importance of discussing with others how to contact you in case of emergencies.



Shakespeare by the Sea

UTB’s Maho Mori reports on the “Shakespeare by the Sea” production of King Lear which took place Point Fermin Park in San Pedro. Spectators brave the weather to enjoy a fabulous evening of Shakespeare under the night sky.

“Shakespeare by the Sea” will be performing at various locations around Los Angeles throughout the summer until August 13th.
