Honda South Bay Classic

On August 20, the 23rd Annual South Bay Classic Golf Tournament was held at Palos Verdes Golf & Country Club. American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the Japan Business Association and the South Bay Sunrise Rotary, as a charity event for drug and alcohol prevention programs at South Bay schools, presented the tournament. The program was created to help the youth of the South Bay community for drug prevention. Over the past 23 years, it has raised $1.8 million and affected more than 340,000 people. The program provides lessons by police officers and drug counselors and helps children with problem solving. At the end of the event, a student from the South Bay gave a speech about his thoughts on drug abuse prevention.

Miss Asia USA

A beautiful Japanese woman walks down the stairs in a kimono. Her name is Ayaka Umata, age 22. She has been studying in the U.S. to become a news anchor. Umata and 21 other Asian beauties competed in the 22nd Annual Miss Asia USA beauty pageant, which was held on August 21 in La Mirada. The contestants, aged between 17 and 28, must live in the U.S. and have at least one-fourth Asian ancestry. The show included a traditional costume, bathing suit, evening dress and interview Q&A. This year, 19-year-old Ariana Manibog Varela, representing the Philippines, won. She and her court will work as cultural ambassadors at events in the U.S.

Riviera Health Spa

Riviera Health Spa, which has a Jjimjilbang opened this month in Torrance. In Los Angeles,there are only two jjimjilbangs, which are large Korean public bathhouses complete with hot tubs, showers, saunas, massage tables and other recreational facilities. Riviera Health Spa has four themed sauna rooms. The salt sauna room uses salt as old as one-thousand-years-old. It is very beneficial to unclogging skin pores, as the salt melts away fat and helps the skin to breathe. The crystal sauna is very popular with females for its effect on balancing hormones. The clay sauna is recommended to diabetics to cleanse the blood. And the ice sauna is set at 50°F. This helps contract the blood vessels and prevents the skin from aging. Aside from these saunas are the gym, café and karaoke, for the whole family to enjoy.
