Unrecognized Loss Screening
A screening for“Unrecognized Loss” was held on April 30th at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This 30-minute documentary, which includes computer graphics and anecdotes of Hiroshima bomb survivors, was made by Tanabe Masaaki, who lost his family in the bombing. What makes this film unique is that it focuses on the peace that was lost, rather than the havoc that it caused. “Unrecognized Loss” will be made in to a 60-minute film by August 6th and released in Japan.
Elegance International School of Professional Makeup’s Makeup Contest
On April 27th, a makeup contest took place at Elegance International Professional School of Makeup. 34 people participated in this annual contest this year. The contest was divided into 4 categories: Extreme Fantasy, Body Painting, Special Effect, and Professional Design. The students competed with each other within a certain time limit as if they were actually working in the field. Professional makeup artists judged finished works in terms of their originality, design and technique. Winners from each category will become representatives of the school and attend IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show) which will be taking place in Los Angeles in this June.
Gundam Workshop
On May 1st, a workshop for plastic models from a popular animated series “Gundam” so-called “Gunpla,” took place at Sugoi Life (a shop for goods related to Japan)” in Northridge. This event was a collaboration between BANDAI JAPAN and Sugoi Life. Gundam fans started lining up in front of the store even before the store opened. The inside of the store was hot with excitement. At the workshop, the visitors assembled plastic models that they purchased as specialists from BANDAI taught them some techniques such as sanding and gluing. Local people of all ages were into crafting their own works.
