The 22nd South Bay Classic
-Raising Funds to Help Drug Prevention Programs-
The 22nd South Bay Classic golf tournament was held on August 21, 2009, at the Los Verdes Golf and Country Club.
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the Japanese Business Association and the South Bay Rotary Club sponsor this golf tournament. The proceeds of this charity event go to drug prevention programs geared toward South Bay students. Approximately $95,000 was raised at last year’s tournament.
After the tournament, a silent auction was held at a dinner ceremony. Also present at the dinner were two South Bay students who thanked all the sponsors for their support.
69th Annual Nisei Week Closing Ceremony
-A Spectacular Grand Finale-
Nisei Week, which started on August 15th this year, came to an end on Sunday, August 23rd, with a closing ceremony held at First Street in Little Tokyo.
Local traditional Japanese dance groups danced to this year’s official ondo song “Kiyoshi no Zundoko Bushi.” This year’s Nisei Queen and Court, as well as spectators joined the dance circle.
At the end of the ceremony, Terry Hara, the 2009 Nisei Week Foundation President, thanked the volunteers and attendees. He also introduced the 2010 Nisei Week Foundation President, Hayato Tamura, who will lead in preparing for the 70th Annual Nisei Week festivities.
The 69th Annual Nisei Week, which is supported by many volunteers who value the Japanese culture and the Japanese American community, ended with smiles.
