Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles Awards Nikkei Elders Over 100
-Celebrating Long Life-
Consul General Junichi Ihara visited Yoshiko Inose of Torrance on November 17, 2009, to hand her an award celebrating Nikkei elders over the age of 100. This is the first year that the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles awarded Nikkei elders over 100 in Los Angeles. Yoshiko Inose, who turned 101-years-old this year, says her secret to living long, is growing plants and practicing Sado (traditional Japanese tea ceremony).
2009 Autumn Conferment of Decorations
-Consul General Ihara Hosts Ceremonies-
The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles hosted the 2009 Autumn Conferment of Decorations ceremonies on November 19 and 20, 2009. Dr. Gordon Mark Berger received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon for his contributions to improving understanding between Japan and the U.S. by teaching Japanese history to over 8,000 students in the United States. Tsuneo Harada received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, for his contributions to tying Japan and the U.S. through baseball. Lastly, Hiroshi Yamaguchi received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for his contributions to improving the welfare of Japanese Americans living in the Los Angeles area by providing services to the elderly.
